Your vacation in the Landes
The second-largest department in France, the Landes is located in the Southwest and has Mont-de-Marsan as its capital. With its pleasant oceanic climate, temperatures are mild throughout the year, with rather warm and very sunny weather during the summer season. Perfect for a wonderful vacation! The Landes is known for its thermal spas with various thermal resorts such as Eugénie-les-Bains, Saubusse-lès-Bains, and Dax. But it is also highly valued for the richness of its incomparable natural heritage and culinary specialties. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Landes is also renowned for its unique coastline in the entire country. Surfing is the most popular sport in the region, but the Landes coast, which stretches over 100 km, lends itself to a multitude of other sporting activities. While the beaches prove to be major tourist sites, the immense Landes forest is also one of the must-see discoveries of the Landes department. You can enjoy wonderful walks on foot, by bike, or even on horseback. Numerous lakes and bodies of water also dot the region, ideal for recharging during your vacation in the Landes and perfect for 100% nature activities. All conditions are met to fully enjoy your stay in the region at Le Saint Martin campsite!
Heritage
The natural heritage of the Landes
Nature is omnipresent in the Landes. The Landes landscapes offer a palette of colors between green, gold, and azure, with pine forests, sandy dunes, and the ocean. Beyond renowned seaside resorts such as Capbreton, Mimizan, Hossegor, and Biscarrosse, the Landes is a true invitation to discover exceptional natural heritage such as its sand dunes. The Dune du Pilat, located on the edge of the Landes de Gascogne forest, is for example the highest dune in Europe, rising to over 100 meters. It stretches for about 3 km and contains 60 million cubic meters of sand. Its summit offers magnificent and dizzying 360-degree views of the Atlantic and the Landes. You can also explore the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park, which reveals an environmental setting unique in Europe. Between pine forests and the Leyre valley, it represents a true reservoir of biodiversity where you can observe increasingly rare animal species, such as the stag beetle or the European mink. Also discover the richness of Landes nature by visiting the Marquèze ecomuseum, founded in 1969 by the Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park. Featuring ancient craftsmanship, a mill, typical houses, Gascon games, and much more, it forms a bridge between traditional society and nature, opening up to you. Also enjoy pleasant hikes in the Landes pine forest, a must-do during your stay.
