Les Landes by bike, a beautiful stage on the Vélodyssée
What cycle tourist doesn't know the Vélodyssée, the longest cycle path in France? This cycle route connects Roscoff (Brittany) to Hendaye (Basque Country) along the Atlantic coast for 1,200 km. In Les Landes, this route follows the coastline for 163 km, from Biscarrosse to Tarnos, between forest and ocean. From Le Saint Martin campsite in Moliets, cyclists can quickly join the Vélodyssée to cycle to Lake Léon, Lette Blanche beach in Vielle-Saint-Girons, or the famous Contis lighthouse. South of Les Landes and just a short bike ride away, the Vélodyssée trail takes you to the beaches of Messanges and Vieux-Boucau, the most beautiful surf spots of Seignosse and Hossegor, all the way to the famous pier of Capbreton. Discover more cycling ideas on the Vélodyssée HERE.
The campsite's favorite: Lake Soustons! From the Moliets-Soustons cycle path, you leave the Landes beaches to head inland to Lake Soustons. A stop is a must at the Azur pontoon, famous for its immense 27-meter, 600-year-old oak tree, labeled "remarkable tree of France".
Trail and Nature Running in Vielle-Saint-Girons
Nothing beats a trail run to discover the landscapes of Les Landes and frolic in nature. In Vielle-Saint-Girons, a very athletic trail course uses the forest paths and wild trails of Marensin, between the beach, the Landes forest, and Lake Vieille. Trail runners follow the dunes and the ocean before heading towards the Landes forest to descend the "tucs," the local specialty. The moss and pine needle-covered dunes, river crossings, and a succession of ascents and descents offer a formidable playground for experienced runners.
