30 km from our Landes campsite, discover Seignosse, its village and beach areas. You'll be charmed by its relaxed atmosphere, both rural and seaside, with the Landes forest as a backdrop. We'll tell you everything you need to know before visiting this small village in the South of Landes, which offers a natural, sporty, and family holiday atmosphere.
Seignosse, Village Side
On the village side, Seignosse is a typical Landes village with its church, old half-timbered houses, and artisan and designer boutiques. Facing the pediment dedicated to Basque pelota, you'll notice the neo-classical style Town Hall. A few steps away, Seignosse church is also worth a visit. The original church was built in the 13th century. It is dedicated to Saint Andrew, Patron Saint of Seignosse. He is also depicted on a stained-glass window with the cross recalling his martyrdom. The sacristy and the bell tower made of Angoulême stone date from 1870. The bell once served as a fire alarm.
Near the church, you'll discover several Landes half-timbered houses dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. The half-timbering between the beams was once filled with wattle and daub, and later with bricks laid flat or in a "fern" pattern. Walking down the street alongside the church, you reach Seignosse's wash house. In the past, the big wash or "bugade" was done every two or three months.
The village's covered market hall is another essential part of Seignosse life. A traditional market is held there every Wednesday morning. During the summer, Seignosse Océan hosts a seasonal market three times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. It's an opportunity to discover the gastronomy of Landes and meet local producers.
Seignosse Beaches for Sunbathing, Swimming, or Surfing
Seignosse-Océan opens onto a six-kilometer seafront. Here you'll find immense fine sandy beaches, dunes protecting the resort from offshore winds, and the wild beauty of untouched nature. Le Pénon is Seignosse's lively and bustling seaside district, where holidaymakers come to enjoy the pleasures of the coast.
Pebnon beach is the most popular in the resort, easy to access, very family-friendly, and supervised in summer. To the north, you'll find Casernes beach, the wildest in Seignosse. South of Penon beach, you'll successively pass Bourdaines beach (named after the shrubs whose stems are used in basketry) to Estagnots beach (small ponds).
The powerful rolling waves delight Landes surf, bodyboard, and longboard enthusiasts. The world's best male and female surfers gather on Seignosse beaches for the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France, stages of the World Tour organized by the WSL.
Must-see: Atlantic Park, the Largest Water Park in Landes
Make the most of your camping stay near Seignosse to spend a fantastic day at the largest water park in Landes: 3,000 m² of pools, 13 slides for the whole family, sandy beaches, a large play area, and a shaded picnic area.
Walks or Bike Rides, "Sea Side and Green Side"
A favorite destination for cycling enthusiasts, the Landes department boasts numerous cycle paths and greenways to enjoy the scent of pines and the sea air. Starting with the Vélodyssée, which runs along the Landes coast for 160 km, from Biscarrosse and Tarnos, passing through Seignosse.
Holidays in Seignosse also mean the coastal forest with its undergrowth of maritime pines, cork oak groves, and welcoming clearings. The resort offers five kilometers of forest trails and a multitude of walking routes to explore.
Immerse in Nature at the Étang Noir Nature Reserve
Classified as a nature reserve in the 1970s, Étang Noir is remarkable for its extremely diverse flora and fauna. It owes its name to the depth and color of its waters, which reflect the surrounding trees. The site offers a landscape characteristic of wet moorlands: dense and lush forest and marsh, accessed by a one-kilometer-long wooden walkway. Étang Noir extends northwards to Étang Blanc, Étang d'Hardy, and Étang de Soustons. Guided tours of approximately 1.5 hours are organized to discover the Nature Reserve and its surroundings.
