Looking for a unique experience during your camping holiday in Les Landes? Head to the village of Castets, where a narrow, winding river flows, feeding Lake Léon. This small river, hidden in the Landes forest, is called “la Palue,” a waterway known for its calm waters and mangrove-like landscapes, which you can explore by canoe-kayak with the Castets club.
Complete escape after a few paddle strokes
Just 20 minutes from our campsite in Moliets-et-Maa, in Les Landes, the Castets canoe-kayak base offers a unique excursion on the Courant de la Palue. In the heart of a Natura 2000 classified natural area, you’ll paddle for about two hours on a 7 km mini-descent, under a canopy of vegetation, discovering an almost secret place. The silence is only broken by the sound of paddles in the water, the flight of dragonflies, or a fish jumping. The banks are home to picturesque flora and fauna, typical of wetlands, vibrant and lush all at once. Day-trippers and experienced kayakers alike are sure to find joy in this small corner of wild water and nature in Les Landes.
One of the most beautiful routes in Les Landes
The route is very easy, with a few currents and tight turns, accelerations, and small obstacles to avoid, adding excitement to your journey. Laughter and thrills guaranteed! There’s no better activity in Les Landes for family fun, playing adventurers under the canopy, or simply escaping the heatwave. The route is always shaded by the forest, and swimming is on the agenda during summer. And to help you remember this aquatic adventure for a long time, a photographer captures beautiful images of your descent.
Who is it for?
The Palue river is an ideal route for a first-time kayaking experience in Les Landes. The descent is accessible to everyone, suitable for beginners and children alike. You can even bring your dog, as long as it’s not the size of a Saint Bernard. Paddling is easy to learn. The instructors from the Castets canoe-kayak club are there to help you.
As with any water activity, it is essential to know how to swim, even though the river is shallow. For safety, wearing a life jacket is mandatory (provided by the club). Bring closed-toe shoes and a change of clothes. After the descent, changing cabins are available, because yes, kayaking gets you wet!
How much does it cost?
Prices are affordable compared to other Landes providers, and profits are donated to the youth of the kayak association. Expect to pay €14 for a kayak, and €28 for a canoe (3 seats).
