In Lit-et-Mixe, in the heart of the Landes coast, Cap de l'Homy beach is often cited as one of the most beautiful in Les Landes. We'll tell you why this beach is so unique!
For its Vastness
Located between La Lette Blanche and Contis-Plage, not far from Campsite Le Saint Martin, the legendary Cap de l'Homy beach offers an immense ribbon of sand over ten kilometers long. There's enough space so you won't be on top of each other. Wild and alluring, the beach is frequented all year round by locals, families, nature lovers, athletes, and those who enjoy relaxing. People come here to enjoy the peace and quiet, escape the crowds, and play Robinson. The promenade along the beach is very pleasant and rejuvenating. For cycling enthusiasts, the Vélodysée allows you to reach Cap de l'Homy by following the coastline.
For its Wild Beauty
The Cap de l'Homy beach owes its reputation to its completely wild and preserved environment, with imposing dunes and the Landes forest as a backdrop. Cap de l'Homy is one of the rare seaside resorts on the Atlantic coast where the coastline has remained untouched by urbanization. More discreet than its neighbors, both distant and close, it attracts beachgoers seeking authenticity and fans of an "old school" vibe. You won't find a profusion of bars, restaurants, or shops here. Just you, the ocean, and the waves of the Silver Coast.
For Supervised Swimming
From mid-June to mid-September, swimming is made safe by the presence of lifeguards. To enjoy the ocean safely, prioritize swimming areas marked by blue flags. With young children, it is preferable to swim at low tide for added safety. Nevertheless, caution is advised, as rip currents (baïnes) are particularly active on the Landes coast.
For its Renowned, Not-Too-Crowded Surf Spot
The numerous sandbanks are particularly suitable for surfing, at low or high tide. It's an isolated beach break where it's rare to encounter a compact crowd of surfers. The spot works best with a southwest swell, or even northwest, combined with a northeast or southeast wind. Several surf schools, including the Surf School at Campsite Le Saint Martin in Les Landes, offer equipment rental or lessons.
For Practicing Naturism in Les Landes
Do you want to practice naturism in Les Landes? Nudism is tolerated at both ends of Cap de l'Homy beach, outside the immediate beach access area. Lit-et-Mixe beach is large enough to allow harmonious coexistence between naturists and 'textiles'.

DID YOU KNOW? The name "Cap de l'Homy" means "man's head" in Gascon. According to some accounts, a human head was found in a hut near the beach in the 1920s. Hence its name. Not very glamorous for one of the most popular beaches in Les Landes!
